What’s Your Gift?
Black Friday. Cyber Monday. Giving Tuesday.
November 27th is Giving Tuesday, a day of generosity celebrated worldwide. This year, CCT’s goal is to raise $3,000. If successful, this will allow us to purchase 500 flash drives for our clients so they have a portable way to keep their resumes, LifeWorks! presentations, and other files as they use different public access computers.
You don’t have to wait until Giving Tuesday, you can give today!
Veterans Returning from Jail and Prison
This week we celebrated Veterans’ Day. The unfortunate reality is an estimated 181,500 veterans are incarcerated in jails and prisons. Most of them return to their communities at some point. Each year CCT serves dozens of returning veterans.
One such veteran was Annetta Mitchell, who completed her prison sentence at our Center for Women. During her incarceration she stayed on top of her VA opportunities and utilized all of the benefits available to her. She was able to save money from her VA benefits while residing with us and once released she used her benefits to pursue higher education. Today, Annetta is working towards her Bachelor’s degree in Human Services. To complete her degree she must complete an internship in the field. Annetta’s life was so impacted by CCT that she chose to complete her internship with us. Annetta is currently an intern with our Families Doing Time program. She is doing fantastic work, and it is all possible because her VA benefits continued despite her incarceration.

Employment is one of the most important elements in successful reentry, and our clients could not find gainful employment without employers who are aware of the benefits of hiring people with criminal records and willing to do so. With this event, we say “thank you” to those employers, and welcome new employers interested in learning about hiring people with criminal records.
