Back In Style – School Supplies Needed
On August 25th CCT will host its 6th annual back to school readiness event, Back In Style. The event serves?CCT’s clients’ families by providing school children with needed school supplies.
CCT estimates that 5,000 children in Mecklenburg County have a parent who is currently incarcerated, and 10,000 more have experienced parental incarceration at some point. Parental incarceration increases the risk of children living in poverty, and we see this with our clients every day. For many, back to school shopping is major financial strain, which is why we started Back In Style 6 years ago.
In addition to providing children with school supplies, the event also offers?a?barbershop station, where volunteer barbers cut children’s hair for free. A new hair cut helps shore up confidence in facing a new school year. All attendees will also recieve a free meal, because we know many families struggle during the summer without access to school lunches.
How?You Can Help
Earlier this year, the barber shop school where?most of our volunteer barbers?came from in years past, shut down. CCT is now seeking additional volunteer barbers for this 3 hour event. For more information, contact Shareef Ivey at?980-202-3065 [email protected]
