CCT Announces 50th Anniversary Gala Speaker

50th anniversary speaker announcement

The Center for Community Transitions is thrilled to announce SHRM President & CEO, Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP will keynote our 50th anniversary celebration gala on Friday, November 1st at Wells Fargo Connections in Uptown Charlotte.

“As the U.S. faces a declining birth rate and resulting talent shortage, hiring justice-impacted individuals has become a business imperative. We need all willing and able individuals to join the labor force as productive and engaged members. This means looking at untapped talent pools and how we can expand opportunities to join the workforce by investing in skills-first initiatives, apprenticeships and, yes, second-chance hiring. And once we get this talent in the door, we need to be sure we have inclusive cultures waiting to welcome them into the fold.,” Taylor said.

SHRM research found that:

  • 82% of Americans said they would feel comfortable patronizing a business that is known to give those with a criminal record a second chance – up from 75% in 2019.
  • Many people with criminal records are underemployed or in insecure jobs.
  • 26% of managers and 14% of HR professionals are unwilling to hire people with criminal records

For five decades CCT has been on the front lines of helping Charlotte become a true second chance city.  Today, with one-third of working age adults in the United States living with a criminal conviction record, we’re inviting you to Own the Journey forward with us and our local reentry partners as we continue the work of expanding pathways to economic mobility for individuals and families in our community who are impacted by criminal justice involvement.
