Your help needed to get our new literacy and tutoring program off the ground

Families Doing Time‘s new Literacy and Tutoring Program needs your help. We are seeking space, books, and volunteers. The program will serve children who have an incarcerated loved one.

We are seeking a space located in West Charlotte that is easy to get to. We need two rooms. One room for up to 40 people and one room for about 10 people. The rooms are needed for 2 hours every Thursday from February-May. If a business or organization you are affiliated with is willing to donate such a space, or if you have some connection that might help, please contact our Families Doing Time Director, Charis Blackmon, at cblackmon@centerforcommunitytransitions.org.

We are also collecting donations of new and gently used children and teen books which will be used during the program and then gifted to the participants at the end of the program to help build their at-home library. Donations can be dropped off at 5825 Old Concord Rd.

Lastly, we are looking for volunteer tutors and reading buddies! Volunteers will need to commit to a brief training in January, and then 2 hours 2 Thursdays a month from February to May. If interested, please contact Families Doing Time Director, Charis Blackmon, at cblackmon@centerforcommunitytransitions.org.
